Otter Jumps Onto Boat to Escape Killer Whale in Alaska John Dornellas, a 37 year old who provides boat trips in Alaska for an exploration company, experienced a moment he says he will never forget. While out on the water, Dornellas noticed sudden movement nearby and realized something dramatic was unfolding right beside his boat. An otter burst through the surface, swimming frantically toward him in clear distress. Just behind it, the unmistakable dorsal fin of a killer whale cut through the water. The otter was fleeing for its life. Dornellas quickly understood that the small animal was trying to escape a deadly predator and was using the boat as its last possible refuge.
